Asdrúbal Aguiar, Alfredo Morles Hernández, Alberto Baumeister Toledo and Rogelio Pérez Perdomo are the Venezuelan jurists who were selected this year to be associated members of the International Academy of Comparative Law (IACL), located in The Hague. The academy, founded in 1924, is a corps of scholars, the principal aim of which is the comparative study of legal systems.
Venezuelan lawyer Alan Brewer Carías, as Vice-President of the Academy, nominated the candidates. Brewer Carías has been a member of the international organization since 1982.
Aguiar told El Universal that the appointment took him by surprise and undertook to renew his commitment to Venezuela. 'I am very glad for my country. This appointment just reinforces my commitment to Venezuela at the academic and intellectual levels. While being in the trenches is important, the system as a whole should be assessed as well,' he said.
