Chavez Frias: Venezuela not willing to take on foreign companies that are not willing to transfer industrial technology

VHeadline Venezuela news reports: President Hugo Chavez Frias says his government is not willing to take on foreign companies that are not willing to transfer industrial technology to Venezuelan jurisdiction. Speaking on his Sunday 'Alo president' TV program, Chavez referred directly to "friendly" Italian companies which are manufacturing trains in Venezuela using local labor, raw materials and imported technology in cooperation with the government.

The President adds that he has given instructions that if a "foreign company does not want to give us technology, we will bring to others who want to do it!"

"We have iron, we have steel ... we view technology transfer as an indispensable condition unless it is not appropriate for the size and complexity of a project ... European and Russian companies are willing to build plants here to manufacture parts and railroad tracks!"

"Venezuela must achieve economic independence from the world's major powers ... we must insist that the raw materials must be processed in our country to turn Venezuela into an industrialized nation."
