Venezuelan mining cooperatives attend three-day national conference under the auspices of Vice President Ramon Carrizales

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Venezuelan mining cooperative representatives from El Dorado and Kilometer 88 have been attending a three-day national conference in southwest Tachira State under the auspices of Vice President Ramon Carrizales who, it is claimed, "knows everything about mining cooperatives and how these small companies have developed over more than 50 years in the south of Bolivar State."

Among the controversial topics discussed at the conference was the affect of current legislation and government regulations on both small- and large-scale mining efforts in Bolivar State. National Cooperative Association chairman Telmo Fajardo said that he hopes that conclusions from the conference and various approaches made to the central government will be taken into account since the mining community does not yet have designated areas for their work.

Over the last three days, working groups have pored over legislation goveringing mining as well as regulatory requirements that present a variety of problems for existing cooperatives such as obtaining compliance certificates and other permits required by the authorities that currently take a year or more to process. "I hope that the government will respond and pay due attention to us since the President of the Republic, Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias issued a decree three years ago stipulating priority for the construction of housing, roadways, community and council buildings as well as giving number one priority to cooperatives on contracts, at State and municipal levels ... unfortunately very little has been done in this respect!"

"We have soought solutions to the problem that are present in the Venezuelan cooperative movement, and for this reason I am appealing to a sense of cooperative brotherhood to stand united to achieve the full benefits and to help improve our quality of life."
