Venezuela: Unemployment has dropped significantly last 3 years

Caracas, Mar 23. ABN.- The unemployment rate in Venezuela has dropped significantly last three years. On January 2006, the rate was placed at 12.9%, while in 2007 dropped to 10.3%, and on January 2008 to 9.2%, according to the monthly report of the National Statistical Institute (INE).

In this sense, the Minister of the People's Power for Labor and Social Security (MINTRASS), José Ramón Rivero, said that the the coup d'etat attempts in 2002 and 2003 contributed for a historical upturn in unemployment rates.

Nevertheless, Rivero said that what people have to know is that six years later the numbers call us to reflect about what is happening in Venezuela, the unemployment at the end of 2007 was placed at 6.3%, which is the lower unemployment rate in Venezuelan history, according with a press bulletin spread by his Ministry.

He explained that it is expected that this year due to the oil prices dynamic, which keep rising, National Government's expectations will be below economic growth.

“Fortunately, the Revolutionary Government aims its oil wealth to social distribution, in order to reduce the inequities and favor the social inclusion, and, of course, worthy and decent employments”, he concluded.
